At just 18 years old, Mahfuz Ahmed left Bangladesh for the United States with hopes of building a better future. What began as a modest business venture in a basement eventually grew into a global technology and workforce solutions company generating more than a billion dollars in annual revenue.
Today, Ahmed is chairman of Dexian, a global provider of technology, staffing and workforce solutions. His journey from an immigrant entrepreneur to the leader of a billion-dollar enterprise has become an inspiring example of determination, innovation and long-term vision.
A Small Beginning
Ahmed began his entrepreneurial journey in the United States in the 1990s, establishing what was then known as Digital Intelligence Systems (DISYS). The company started on a relatively small scale but gradually expanded its operations in the technology and information-technology staffing sector.
Over the years, Ahmed and his brother, Maruf Ahmed, helped transform the company into a major international business. Through strategic growth, acquisitions and expansion into new markets, the organization eventually developed into what is now known as Dexian.
Building a Global Enterprise
The company's growth accelerated through a series of strategic acquisitions and expansions. DISYS acquired Signature Consultants in 2021, strengthening its presence in the IT staffing and workforce solutions industry.
In 2023, the company adopted the name Dexian as it expanded its global footprint and broadened its technology and workforce-related services.
Today, Dexian operates internationally, serving businesses with technology, staffing, consulting and workforce solutions. The company's growth has turned Ahmed's early entrepreneurial venture into a global enterprise with billions of dollars in annual revenue.
From CEO to Chairman
Mahfuz Ahmed played a central role in the company's development for decades, including serving as its chief executive. His leadership helped drive the company's expansion and establish its position in the highly competitive technology and staffing industries.
His brother, Maruf Ahmed, later assumed the role of CEO, while Mahfuz Ahmed continued his involvement as chairman, focusing on the company's broader strategic direction and long-term growth.
An Inspiring Story for Bangladeshi Entrepreneurs
Ahmed's story is particularly significant for the Bangladeshi community in the United States. Arriving from Bangladesh as a teenager, he built his career through years of hard work, entrepreneurship and perseverance.
His journey demonstrates how an immigrant entrepreneur can turn a small idea into an international business through strategic thinking, adaptability and sustained commitment.
For many young Bangladeshi-Americans and aspiring entrepreneurs, Ahmed's experience offers an important message: success does not necessarily begin with a large investment or established connections. It can begin with a small idea, determination and the willingness to take risks.
Giving Back Through Education
Ahmed and his brother have also contributed to educational initiatives. In 2022, the brothers donated $250,000 to George Mason University's College of Engineering and Computing to support technology and innovation-related initiatives.
Their philanthropic activities reflect a broader commitment to education and the development of future generations of technology professionals and entrepreneurs.
A Remarkable Journey
From leaving Bangladesh at the age of 18 to building a business with a global presence, Mahfuz Ahmed's story represents a remarkable immigrant success story.
What started as a small entrepreneurial venture eventually evolved into a billion-dollar international enterprise. His journey highlights the power of perseverance, innovation and strategic leadership—and stands as an inspiring example of what determined entrepreneurs can achieve in the United States.
