Central Florida Mohanagar Awami League USA Hosts 15 August National Mourning Day in Orlando

Orlando, FL – August 15, 2025 — The Central Florida Mohanagar Awami League USA solemnly observed National Mourning Day on Friday, August 15, in Orlando, Florida, paying tribute to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and his family members who were brutally assassinated on this day in 1975.

The event brought together members of the Bangladeshi-American community, political leaders, cultural activists, and well-wishers in Central Florida. The program began with the placing of floral wreaths before the portrait of Bangabandhu, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of the martyrs of August 15.

Leaders of the Central Florida Mohanagar Awami League USA delivered speeches highlighting the life, struggles, and sacrifices of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They emphasized his unparalleled role in Bangladesh’s independence and his vision for a democratic, secular, and prosperous nation. Speakers also condemned the brutality of the 1975 killings and reiterated their commitment to carrying forward Bangabandhu’s ideals.

In their remarks, community leaders urged the younger generation to learn about the history of Bangladesh and uphold the values of unity, democracy, and justice. The program also included special prayers (Dua Mahfil) for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.

Cultural presentations, including patriotic songs and poetry recitations, added a reflective tone to the event. Members of the women’s and youth wings of the Awami League also took part, stressing the importance of preserving Bangladesh’s history within the diaspora.
