As a symbol of the 50th anniversary of the Bangladeshi diaspora in New York and North America, the 'Bangladesh Society' has held its 50th anniversary celebration. Thousands of diaspora gathered for this celebration of '50 years of glory, tradition, success, and achievements'. Some of the leaders of the 'Bangladesh Society', established 50 years ag,o were also present.
In the brightly lit auditorium of the elite auditorium 'Terrace on the Park' in Queens, artists from 'Nrityanjali', one of the most popular cultural organizations in the diaspora, began the program with a dance performance to 'Ami Banglaay Gaan Gai'. Earlier, the national anthems of Bangladesh and the United States were played. In addition, before reading from the Holy Gita, after recitation from the Holy Quran, a special prayer was held under the leadership of Jamil Ansari for the forgiveness of the souls of all the deceased officials of this organization.
Mohiuddin Dewan, convener of the Golden Jubilee Festival and Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Society, delivered the welcome speech. After that, 6 individuals were given the 'Society Award' for their special contributions in various fields.
These are Syed Muhammad Ullah in journalism, Kamal Ahmed, who dedicated his life to social work (his daughter Rumana Ahmed received the award), sports personality Saidur Rahman Don, cultural organizer Selima Ashraf, Mosharraf Hossain Khan Chowdhury in education, organizer Kazi Azharul Haque Milon, and 'The Optimists', who have been working for 25 years to educate children of the backward communities of Bangladesh in technical education.
Society officials presented the awards. New York State Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar presented special honors to the Bangladesh Society and its top officials for their contributions to community service. The Queens Borough President's Office also presented citations to great applause.
Namira Mehdi and Victor Ghosh graduated from Harvard, while Anika Zeba graduated as a lieutenant in the US Army, also holding a higher degree in business administration from St. John's University.
Then former president and chief advisor of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee and former president Dr. Hamiduzzaman said, 'The new generation must also be included in the executive committee of the society. It is important to ensure that they get priority as members. Because they will be able to properly represent the first generation. It will not be easy to attract the next generation to the history and tradition of Bengal and Bengalis so easily.'
Dr. Hamiduzzaman said, 'Just as Bangladesh Society is a symbol of unity today, it is also a source of inspiration for the next generation. Our next goal should be to establish a modern, cultural and social Bangladesh Center - which will be a symbol of our permanent identity abroad.'
Dr. Mainul Islam Mia, chairman and former president of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, said, "We must continue our efforts to uphold our own heritage, culture, and glorious values."
Bangladesh Society President Ataur Rahman Selim said, "Let us take Bangladesh Society further forward with the power of unity, love, and patriotism towards a bright and proud future for the next generation."
