Bangladeshi content creator is getting praise from Malaysians for making videos of iftar moments

A video of an Iftar gathering at Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, captured on a drone camera by Bangladeshi freelancer and content creator Mostakim Joni has created a huge stir on social media.

It is an old custom to have Iftar in the open field in the presence of thousands of locals and foreigners every year in this historical square, which witnessed the declaration of the country's independence, before the Iftar break during Ramadan. On February 28, Bangladeshi content creator Johnny captured the scene of such a gathering. The video captured through his lens is very skillful. Johnny first published the video on his TikTok account and soon after it was published, it quickly went viral. The video received widespread praise from local citizens.

The video was also shared by three important government departments in Malaysia, the Prime Minister's Office, the Federal Territory Administration, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) from their own Facebook pages, which is now viral across the internet.

These government pages mentioned Mostakim Joni's name as the video credit in their captions, while also making a special appeal to the public to maintain the environment and cleanliness of Dataran Merdeka.

Impressed by the video, numerous Malaysians are leaving positive comments, leading many to now plan to break their fast at the historic site.

Overjoyed at such recognition of his work, Mostakim Joni told Bangladesh Pratidin, "It is a great achievement for me to have my work shared on Malaysian government pages and to receive positive responses from locals. As a Bangladeshi, it is a moment of great pride for the country and for myself to be able to achieve such an honor in a foreign land." 

As Dataran Merdeka is currently one of the most important tourist destinations in Malaysia, this video also plays a role in promoting the country's tourism and religious heritage.
