Toronto's music-loving audience had a different and enchanting time on Sunday evening with Lalon's songs. Artist Shirin Chowdhury organized a special musical evening featuring Lalon's songs - 'Paran Jaha Chai' - at the city's Dawn on the Danforth Auditorium.
For about an hour, she mesmerized the audience by performing one Lalon song after another. Shirin Chowdhury, a renowned folk singer, took to the stage with Lalon songs. The second part was a colorful collection of songs. The duet of mother Shirin Chowdhury and son Susmoy Chowdhury was the exceptional attraction of the program.
The event began with a welcome speech by Dolly Begum MPP, the first and only elected representative of Bangladeshi origin in Canada. Earlier, the artist's daughter, Suzan Tasneem Chowdhury, came to the stage and welcomed the guests. She greeted the audience and introduced the artist's mother.
Ontario Provincial Parliament Member Dolly Begum expressed her joy at the flourishing state of Bengali literature and culture in Toronto. She highlighted her role in the development of Bengali culture in Canada and promised to work on a larger scale. She presented a memento of appreciation to artists Shirin Chowdhury and Susmoy Chowdhury on behalf of her office.
Then began Shirin Chowdhury's Lalon music performance. She performed popular, well-known, and lesser-known Lalon songs one after another. Between the songs, renowned reciter Ahmed Hossain added a unique dimension to her poetry presentation. Shirin Chowdhury enthralled the audience by performing about 23 Lalon songs in a row.
In the second episode, her son Susmoy Chowdhury joined her on stage. A student of Ustad Prosenjit Deoghariya, the new generation artist Susmoy impressed the audience with his clear pronunciation and extraordinary singing. In the last episode, Shirin Chowdhury performed a few songs with her friends. Keyboard - Ruptanu Sharma, Tabla - Tanjir Alam Rajib, Flute - Vasu Bisht, Guitar - Abir Das contributed to the instrumental music.
