Short Pitch Elite League gathers in Calgary

The much-discussed cricket tournament, Short Pitch Elite League 2026, has begun at the Genesis Centre in Calgary, Canada. The two-day tournament, which began on Friday (January 9), is organized by Short Pitch BD Cricket YYC.

The tournament has already become festive with the spontaneous participation of Bangladeshi cricket fans abroad. A total of six teams are participating in this competition, modeled after the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The teams are - Dhaka Mafia, Noakhali Royals, Chittagong Knights, Khulna Vikings, Sylhet Sixers, and Rangpur Titans.

The teams are playing some very competitive cricket in the fast-paced matches on the short-pitch format. The first day of the tournament saw some impressive performances with both bat and ball. The entire Genesis Centre was filled with cheers, applause, and cheers from the spectators as the crowd overflowed the spectator gallery.

The spectators and organizers expressed satisfaction with the lively performance of the players and the orderly arrangement. The remaining matches and the final of the tournament will be held on Sunday (January 11).

The organizers stated that this event will not only provide sports but also play a crucial role in the physical and mental development of expatriates during their busy lives. They expressed hope that the Short Pitch Elite League 2026 will take the popularity of cricket in Calgary a step further and that the involvement of expatriates in such events will increase further in the future.
