US Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken said in a statement on August 24, marking the seventh anniversary of the human rights violations that began with the campaign to exterminate the Rohingya population and Muslims from Myanmar, that Myanmar's ongoing humanitarian crisis and human rights violations have exacerbated the plight of members of the country's many ethnic and religious minority groups, particularly the Rohingya. The United States stands with countries that provide asylum to people who have fled their homes to escape the brutal attacks and genocide against the Rohingya community. That is why the United States is also committed to providing all assistance to those countries including Bangladesh who are helping to save people's lives in this crisis.
It also said that in the last 7 years, the United States has provided 2.4 billion dollars in humanitarian aid to run Rohingya camps in Bangladesh and neighboring countries. We have already collected extensive documentation of atrocities and torture against the Rohingya and all civilians.
Our support for the aspirations of the people of Myanmar for a democratic, inclusive, and peaceful future remains unwavering, the US Secretary of State noted. Likewise, calls on all parties to protect civilians will continue.
