Bangladeshi-origin Tarni Hasib Fatmi (38) has been nominated as a State Senator (District-18) in North Carolina, USA. Hasib Fatmi was appointed in his place on May 21 after Senator Terrace Everitt resigned. With this, Hasib Fatmi has become the first Bangladeshi-origin senator/representative in the US after Georgia (Sheikh Rahman and Nabila Islam), Virginia (Saddam Azlan Saleem), Connecticut (Masudur Rahman) and New Hampshire State (Abul Khan). Hasib Fatmi was born in 1988 in Durham City, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Campus in 2009 with a degree in international relations and received a higher law degree from Fordham Law School in New York in 2012. Since then, he has been working as an attorney in North Carolina. Hasib's father, Mohammad Badrul Ehsan Fatmi, a native of Noakhali, came to the United States after passing his HSC in 1973 and did his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Duke University in North Carolina. Fatmi's mother, Saida Fatmi Snigdha, came to the United States in 1980 through marriage. She also did her BBA in Computer Science from North Carolina Central University. Both of Hasib's parents are professionals and live in Raleigh City.
