To diversify export products, the Bangladesh High Commission, Kuala Lumpur, has been making diplomatic efforts to create opportunities for Bangladeshi fresh mango exports to Malaysia since 2023.

To this end, the High Commission has maintained regular communication with the Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh, the Exportable Mango Production Project of the Department of Agricultural Extension, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Commerce, and exchanged necessary information as per the requirements of the Malaysian Department of Agriculture. In addition, the Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) report has also been sent.

The High Commission has held several meetings with the Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture, various chambers of commerce, interested importers and supermarket representatives. The huge demand for mangoes in the Malaysian market and the large number of Bangladeshi expatriates living in the country have created special interest among importers and exporters in this market.

As a result of the active efforts of the Bangladesh Government and the Bangladesh High Commission, the Malaysian Department of Agriculture formally proposed a Verification of Compliance (VOC) inspection of Bangladeshi mango orchards and fresh fruit packing facilities in February 2026. Such verification inspections are mandatory as a prerequisite for completing a Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) for the import of fresh mangoes, as per Malaysian government regulations.

The relevant government departments of Bangladesh have agreed to Malaysia's proposal and have made the necessary preparations. A two-member high-level delegation from the Malaysian Department of Agriculture will conduct a field visit to various mango production areas, packing systems, storage facilities and export preparations in Bangladesh from June 7 to 13, 2026.

It is to be noted that the Exportable Mango Production Project of the Department of Agricultural Extension under the Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for the overall management of this inspection.

If the required quality and safety conditions can be met, there is a possibility that Bangladeshi fresh mango exports to Malaysia will start during the current mango season. Those concerned hope that if the Malaysian market opens up, it will create new opportunities for Bangladeshi mango exports to other countries in Southeast Asia as well.
