A new committee of the Bangladesh Students Union was formed in Malaysia

The Bangladeshi Students Union Malaysia (BSUM), the largest organization of Bangladeshi students studying in Malaysia, has formed a new committee for 2026.

A discussion meeting was held at the prestigious restaurant Pak Punjab in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting was presided over by the organization's former president, Md. Rabiul Islam. The organization's advisor, Suraiya Nahar Yasmin, was the chief guest, and former president and current advisor Alamgir Chowdhury Akash was present as a special guest.

Although advisor Professor Abul Bashar could not be present directly, he provided important guidance on the formation of the new committee and future activities. In addition, Professors Mohiuddin Mahi, Zahir Sadat, Abdul Bashir, Burhan Uddin and Zahrul Islam provided valuable advice.

The new committee was announced in the presence of students studying at various universities in Malaysia. Belayet Hossain, a PhD student at the International Islamic University Malaysia, was appointed president, and Abu Zayed, a PhD student at Sunway University, was appointed general secretary.

Nominated as Vice-Presidents: Fatima Islam Tanvi (IIUM, Kuantan), Ismat Jahan Ishita (PhD researcher), Mahbubur Rahman (Multimedia University), Md. Abdullah Faisal (University of Science Islam), Md. Mahdi Hassan Imran (University Malaysia Terengganu, PhD).

Tahmidur Rahman has been nominated as the joint general secretary, and Mushfiqur Rahman Swapan has been nominated as the organizing secretary. The full committee will be announced soon.

It is worth noting that BSUM is a completely non-political organization established in 2014, which has been working to ensure the rights, welfare and representation of Bangladeshi students studying in Malaysia.
