DU Geography and Environment Department Alumni Reunion in Sydney

A lively reunion event was held in Sydney on Saturday, October 4, for the alumni of the Department of Geography and Environment of Dhaka University. Alumni from different parts of Australia participated in the reunion.

On behalf of the 1992-93 academic year, Nazmul Jasim opened the program by thanking and appreciating everyone. Sultana Nasrin and Saleh were the moderators. The program was planned by Dr. Selim Momtaz, a former departmental teacher and current lecturer at Newcastle University.

Khurshid Abedin, who joined the Department of Geography and Environment in 1970, said, "I am very happy to exchange greetings with all the students at this gathering." Hafiza Khatun and Nasrin Khan, former teachers of the Department of Geography and Environment, were present.

Teachers and students present at the gathering said, "DU's Geography and Environment Department is an important chapter in our lives. Even while abroad, we want to stay connected with each other so that that bond remains unbroken." They exchanged views on how to contribute to the development of the department in the future, how to extend a helping hand to newcomers. Along with that, there were reminiscences of the campus, stories, chats and taking pictures.

The event included special gifts for the little ones, a raffle draw, poetry recitation by Shahidul Alam Badal, and songs by various artists. A special magazine with pictures edited by Atiqur Rahman was presented to all those present.

DU Alumni Australia President Kamrul Mannan Akash and General Secretary Lincoln Shafiqullah also joined the alumni chat.

The organizers stated that plans are in place to organize regular reunions in the future, allowing alumni of the Department of Geography and Environment at DU living abroad to strengthen their relationships with one another.

Cultural programs and delicious food were served, with families of former students also participating. The event, filled with life-long bonds and memorable moments, was filled with joy and emotion among the expatriate Dhawans of Sydney.
