A discussion meeting and prayer meeting were held in Ottawa, Canada, on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of martyred President Ziaur Rahman (Bir Uttam) at the initiative of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Ottawa branch and the Nationalist Youth Party Canada branch.
The program was presided over by Anjir Noor (Kabita), acting president of the BNP Ottawa branch, on Sunday (June 7, 2026). The program was moderated by Abu Yusuf Harun, joint secretary of BNP Ontario Province and former organizer of Ottawa BNP.
At the beginning of the program, former Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader, former joint secretary of Kafrul Thana Jubo Dal, and one of the organizers of Canada Jubo Dal, Monowar Hossain Akash, delivered a welcome speech.
In their speeches, the speakers recalled with deep respect the colorful political life of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, his contribution to protecting the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh, his historical role in establishing multi-party democracy, nation-building, and enhancing Bangladesh's status in the international arena.
Ottawa BNP senior advisor and former Munshiganj Chhatra Dal leader Anwar Hossain, advisor Azad Kazi, Bangladesh Engineers Association leader and Canada Jubo Dal leader Ratin Chowdhury, Ottawa BNP office secretary Sarwar Jahan Parvez and Nur Jamili, among other leaders, spoke at the event.
The speakers highlighted various aspects of martyred President Ziaur Rahman's ideals, honesty, patriotism, leadership qualities and his outstanding contribution to the development of Bangladesh. At the same time, they discussed his nationalist philosophy, democratic values and his far-reaching contribution to the development of the country.
At the end of the program, special prayers were offered to pray for the eternal peace of martyred President Ziaur Rahman (Bir Uttam) and former Prime Minister and national leader Late Begum Khaleda Zia. In addition, special prayers were offered to pray for peace, progress, prosperity and welfare of Bangladesh and the people. The prayers and prayers were led by Imam Mohammad Shariful Islam.
In their closing remarks, the speakers highly praised the political foresight, organizational skills and leadership of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in building a prosperous, democratic and modern Bangladesh. They offered special prayers for the overall welfare of Bangladesh, the peace and prosperity of the people, and Tarique Rahman's good health, long life and successful leadership.
