A court has sentenced a Bangladeshi student named Hajibur Masum (26) to 28 years in prison for brutally murdering his wife Kulsuma Akhtar on the street in Bradford, Britain.
It is learnt that on April 6 last year, Masum stabbed his wife 26 times, threw her to the ground, kicked her, and then stabbed her in the throat. Their seven-month-old baby was sitting in a pram next to her during the horrific murder.
The case alleges that Masum tried to make it appear that he was in Spain by posting fake Facebook posts, but secretly planned to come to Bradford and kill Kulsuma. CCTV footage shows him roaming the area, sending fake GP appointments to trap Kulsuma and threatening her with “terrible consequences” if she didn’t show up. On the day of the murder, Kulsuma was walking with a friend, her son in a pram. Masum came and blocked their path.
The CCTV shows him trying to drag Kulsuma away. When he realized she was not willing to go, he suddenly took out a knife from his pocket and started stabbing her one after another. He didn't stop at just stabbing her, but threw her to the ground, kicked her, and slit her throat.
Masum denied the murder charge and pleaded guilty to manslaughter. But the jury found him guilty of murdering his wife. He was also found guilty of multiple charges—assault, threatening to kill, and stalking his wife. Masum was also found guilty of possessing a knife in public.
