The 'New York Global Short Film Fest 2026' (Season 1) is going to add a new dimension to the international film scene. This international film festival will be held in New York on August 8. Organized for the first time, this festival is being considered an important global platform for filmmakers and audiences.
The festival is being organized by the non-profit New York Film Foundation. The festival is accepting submissions for short films and documentaries in 11 categories. Organizers said that within a month of the submission process, 265 films have been submitted from countries around the world, including Bangladesh, India, Africa, the United States, and the Middle East. Films can be submitted until July 5.
Film submissions are being accepted through the international platform Filmfreeway. So far, the largest number of films has been submitted from the United States. In addition, a significant number of films have been submitted from Bangladesh, India, various countries in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and various countries in North and South America. Due to the overwhelming response, Filmfreeway has recognized the festival as a 'best seller', the organizers said.
Festival director and founder of the New York Film Foundation, Shamim Al Amin, said the festival will be held at two separate venues on August 8 from 11 am to 10 pm.
The opening ceremony, seminars, workshops, and film screenings will be held from 11 am to 4 pm at the Queen's Library Central Auditorium in Jamaica. The film screening, discussion, and awards ceremony will be held from 5 pm to 10 pm at the Jamaica Centre for Arts and Learning (JCAL).
The organizers said that this year's festival will award prizes in 11 categories. Short films and documentaries made within the last three years are eligible for submission. There is also a separate category for students and new filmmakers.
Renowned American filmmaker Lear Levine will serve as the head of the festival's jury board.
