The three-day Durga festival organized by the Saskatoon Sarvajanin Puja Parishad (SSPP) at the local Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Province, Canada, was successfully concluded in a very joyful atmosphere and with spontaneous participation.
The beginning of the month of Ashwin means the smell of worship in the minds of Bengalis. Be it at home or abroad. Every day of the festival was filled with devotion, cultural heritage and the gathering of expatriate Bengalis.
The presence of devotees in the worship of Goddess Durga, worship, flower offerings, distribution of prasad and various arrangements for the puja have made this festival a joyous occasion. This time Durga has come riding a horse, which will result in the earth being filled with social unrest, war or chaos.
The daily cultural program featured solo and group music and dance performances by local artists, including children and teenagers, which were very lively and captivating.
This grand event ends with Vijaya Dashami and the playing of Sindoor. Dashami is not just the end of Durga Puja; it is the beginning of a new journey. On this day, Goddess Durga declared the victory of good energy by killing Mahishasura, and that victory illuminates humanity. On the day of Dashami, Goddess Durga returns from this mortal world to Kailash. As this farewell weighs on the mind, the exchange of Vijaya greetings strengthens bonds with relatives and friends.
Deval Chowdhury, President of the Saskatoon Sarvajanin Puja Parishad (SSPP), expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to all the Bangladeshis living abroad for completing the Puja beautifully.
