Bangladeshi expatriate murdered in Portugal

Three months later, another Bangladeshi expatriate named Shamim Hossain (35) was stabbed to death by a thug in Costa da Caparica, Setúbal district, Portugal, on Tuesday night. Incidents of torture and abuse against expatriates are on the rise in the country.

The tragic incident is said to have occurred after he tried to stop the theft of a bicycle parked in front of his workplace. The deceased, Shamim Hossain, was from Kotwali police station in Comilla district of Bangladesh. He worked at a local fast-food shop.

According to GNR police sources, Shamim Hossain would commute to work on his bicycle every day and park it in front of the shop. On the day of the incident, the bicycle was also kept in front of the shop in the same manner. At that time, an African citizen tried to steal his bicycle. Shamim Hossain saw it and immediately ran and tried to catch the thief. At that time, the accused thief repeatedly stabbed Shamim Hossain in the chest with a knife he was carrying. He died on the spot due to serious injuries.

Upon receiving the information, the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) police reached the spot, recovered the body of the deceased Shamim Hossain, and sent it to the hospital for autopsy. The police have launched an operation to arrest the accused thief.
