The Bengali story film 'Adim' directed by Yuvraj Shamim was screened at the 'Multicultural Film Screening Centre' at 3000 Danforth Avenue in Toronto, organized by the Toronto Film Forum.
'Adim' is an exceptional film from the conventional. 'Adim' was made with public funding. It was shot in the Bank Math slum of Tongi. The film stars Badsha, Dulal Sohagi, Sadek, and others, residents of that slum.
This 84-minute film portrays the lives of slum dwellers. Set in a slum in Tongi, the film poignantly depicts their relentless struggle to survive amidst poverty and deprivation and for their dignity as human beings. The fact that amateurs shoot the film adds a layer of authenticity to the battle of human life in the true sense.
It is worth noting that 'Adim' was screened in the competition section at the 44th Moscow International Film Festival and won the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asia Cinema) Jury Prize in 2022.
After the film screening, moderated by Toronto Film Forum Program Editor Gautam Sikder, filmmaker and founding member of Toronto Film Forum Shakil Hannan, film critic and writer Iqbal Karim Hasnu, painter Syed Iqbal, Toronto Film Forum Film Screening Editor Regina Rahman, Press and Publicity Editor Maitreyi Devi, Executive Member Sagar Ahmed, and writer Fazlul Haque Saikat discussed the film. The speakers highly praised the film. The film's story, acting, and subtle reality presentation fascinated the audience.
