Mohammad Zahed Hossain (30), an expatriate from Sandwip, Chittagong, has been killed in an explosion in Kuwait, it has been reported. He is the son of Kamal Uddin of Ward No. 9 of Sandwip Municipality. Zahed worked in the Salmi area of Kuwait and was engaged in camel herding in the desert region. He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old child.
According to family sources, Zahed spoke to his father on the mobile on Thursday morning, and the news of his death reached the family from Kuwait on the same evening. When colleagues sent pictures of the body to Zahed's father, a shadow of grief fell over the family.
Chittagong North District BNP Joint Convener Engineer Belayet Hossain confirmed the death through his family, but no government source has confirmed this information yet.
Initially, it was said that Zahed was killed by a missile. Later, one of his roommates said over the phone that he died from a landmine explosion during the 1991 Iraq-Kuwait war. It has not yet been confirmed which information is correct.
Earlier, last Monday, Md. Tarek, a young expatriate from the Azimpur area of Sandwip, was killed by a missile fragment in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
