A Bangladeshi student named Sahrawar Ahmed Emon (22) has been missing in Greek Cyprus, an island nation in the eastern Mediterranean of Europe, for almost two weeks. Meanwhile, after Emon went missing, it has been alleged that unknown persons have been demanding a ransom of 35,000 euros from his family through phone calls and messages. A screenshot in this regard has also been published by the local media in Cyprus. The missing Emon is the son of Nasir Mia of the Bakharnagar area of Raipura Upazila of Narsingdi. The mystery surrounding Emon is intensifying day by day. Although the police have launched extensive activities to search for him, no trace of him has been found so far even after the second week of his disappearance.
According to local media reports, several messages have been sent to Emon's family claiming to be the kidnappers. These messages initially demanded a ransom of 10,000 euros and later another 25,000 euros, for a total of 35,000 euros. However, the police have not yet confirmed the authenticity and actual source of the messages. Emon has been missing since he left home for work on June 12. Police investigations have revealed that his mobile phone was last traced to the Kofinou area of Cyprus. No further information has been found about his whereabouts since then. Cyprus police said they are analyzing CCTV footage, mobile phone data and other digital evidence. In addition, search operations are continuing in various areas. Emon's roommate and Bangladeshi student Moazzem Hossain told Bangladesh Pratidin, "That day, Emon left home at around 6:30 pm, announcing that he was joining a new job. Later, at 10:40 pm, Emon's father called and said that he had received a message from Emon's WhatsApp. It said that if the son is to be returned alive, 35,000 euros must be sent by June 14.' He further said, 'After the incident, we filed a complaint at the police station. After receiving the complaint, the police and the CID jointly started an investigation. The alleged kidnappers regularly sent threatening and ransom messages. As part of the investigation, Emon's acquaintances have been questioned and attempts have been made to identify his location through various sources. However, no progress has been made yet. Meanwhile, Emon's family is spending their days in extreme anxiety and worry. The family members have sought urgent intervention from the concerned authorities for his quick and safe recovery.
