A Bangladeshi national named Kamran Delwar Hossain Khan has died in Koridalos Prison, Greece. As his family could not be found in the country and later at the request of a relative, the Bangladesh Embassy, Athens, has taken the initiative to bury his body locally.

A press release from the embassy said that Kamran Delwar Hossain Khan died in prison on March 14. However, it was not possible to officially identify him as a Bangladeshi as he did not have a Bangladeshi passport, national identity card, birth certificate or any other official document. He was an undocumented worker. However, the embassy accepted the body on humanitarian grounds as he was mentioned as a Bangladeshi in Greek documents.

Later, it was found that his ancestors lived in Shariatpur district, but no one from his current family could be found there. Later, his brother, who was staying in another country, contacted the embassy and said that they had no other relatives in Bangladesh. He requested that the body be buried in Greece instead of sending it home and provided a no-objection letter in this regard.

The embassy said that if the identity is not confirmed and there is no clear information as a Bangladeshi, the government is not obliged to take action in such cases. However, considering the humanitarian aspect, initiatives have been taken with the assistance of Greek authorities to bury the body according to Muslim religious rules.
