A Bangladeshi youth named Khaled Mia (27) was shot dead by terrorists in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was killed in the Ind Street area of the city at around 10 am local time on Saturday.
The deceased, Khaled Ahmed, was the only son of Kashir Ali of Tengra village in Alankari Union of Bishwanath Upazila of Sylhet district
According to a family and expatriate source, Khaled was in charge of looking after his uncle Advocate Afroz Uddin's business establishment in Johannesburg. On Saturday morning, he went to withdraw money from a bank in the Ind Street area for business purposes. When he left the bank with the money, a group of terrorists who were already waiting there opened fire on him indiscriminately, causing him to fall to the ground. Later, locals rescued him and took him to a hospital in Johannesburg, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Khaled's body is currently kept at the hospital morgue. It is reported that arrangements will be made to send the body to the country after the legal process is completed.
Alonkari Union Parishad Chairman Atiqur Rahman Liton confirmed the incident. He said Khaled was a very polite and friendly young man. He was also known and loved by the Bangladeshi community in Johannesburg.
