Body of Bangladeshi youth recovered from Okanagan Lake, Canada

The body of a Bangladeshi youth has been recovered from Okanagan Lake near the Kelowna campus of the University of British Columbia in Canada. The deceased youth has been identified as Shaswat Soumya. He is a resident of Sunamganj district in Bangladesh. His body was recovered on Monday morning local time.

It is known that Shashwat graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2021, securing first place in the Computer Science and Engineering Department with a GPA of 4.0. After that, he taught at BRAC University for a while and also taught at BUET for a short time. Later, he moved to MIT in the United States for higher education. He was in the final stages of his PhD degree there.

Recently, he was giving lectures on his research at various top universities in the United States and Canada. These include Berkeley, Princeton and Harvard. Just two days ago, he presented research on artificial intelligence at the University of British Columbia and received an offer from the NLP group there. Before his death, he announced his decision to permanently reside in Canada in a Facebook status.

His body was recovered from a lake near the university on Monday (June 2). The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the exact cause of death is not yet known. So far, they do not suspect any criminal activity or anyone.
