Police have recovered the dismembered body of a Bangladeshi youth named Mohammad Sagar Bala Abhi (21) from a sack in the Spoleto area of Perugia province, Italy. The deceased Abhi is the only son of Kumod Bala of Pakhulla village in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district.
It is learned that Abhi crossed the Mediterranean Sea to Italy two and a half years ago. He lived in a local shelter and worked in a restaurant. After being missing for several days, the police recovered his body wrapped in a black sack on Monday evening from a green area near the railway line on the Via Primo Mazzo road. An electric bicycle used by the deceased was also found on the sack.
It is initially believed that Abhi was stabbed to death and his head, hands and feet were cut off and separated. Not all the body parts have been recovered yet. Police are searching nearby garbage cans and dustbins.
Immediately after the incident, local Carabinieri police searched the area and collected CCTV footage. Friends, colleagues and shelter staff of the deceased are being questioned. However, no arrests have been made yet.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Rome said that they are in touch with the local administration. Once the police report is received, formalities and necessary measures will be taken regarding the body. Meanwhile, the incident of dismembering the young man and dumping him in a park has created a sensation in the area. Expatriate Bangladeshis and locals are panicking.
