A Bangladeshi expatriate has won 1 million dirhams in a lottery in the United Arab Emirates. This is equivalent to 35 million taka in Bangladeshi currency.

Alauddin Haji Abu Saeed, an expatriate living in the city of Al Ain in the Emirates, has been involved in business in the country for about 21 years.

In a report on Friday, Emirati media outlet Gulf News reported that he bought the lottery ticket that won him nearly 35 million taka with 9 other friends.

Alauddin said he had been buying lottery tickets for the past six years. "I was surprised," he said. "After years of trying, I never thought this would happen."

Alauddin has not yet decided what to do with the lottery money.
