Two expatriates from Kanaighat in Sylhet district had left for the airport in Saudi Arabia with the dream of returning home to their loved ones after a long time. They had return tickets in their hands, and their relatives were waiting. But in a cruel twist of fate, they were never able to return to their loved ones. Both of them lost their lives in a tragic road accident before reaching the airport. Although they had return tickets in their hands, they were unable to board the plane.
Four Bangladeshis have been killed in an airport-bound car accident on their way from Taif to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The tragic accident occurred in the Al-Khurma area of Taif at around 2 pm on Monday (September 7).
It is learnt that the car, which was en route from Taif to Jeddah, met with an accident in the Al-Khurma area. Four people, including the driver, were killed. Two of the deceased hailed from Kanaighat Upazila of Sylhet.
The two deceased expatriates are Abdul Karim and Khalid Ahmed. Their home is in Lamar Taluk village of Gachbari area of South Banigram Union No. 7 of Kanaighat Upazila.
It was learned that Abdul Karim and Khalid Ahmed were preparing to return home after a long stay abroad. They packed their luggage and headed for the airport with the dream of meeting their loved ones. But that journey turned out to be the last journey of their lives.
When the news of the deaths of the two expatriates reached their home areas in the country, a shadow of grief descended among the relatives and locals. The joy of the families waiting to welcome their loved ones turned to tears in an instant. A heartbreaking atmosphere was created in the area.
Confirming the news of the death of the two expatriates, local UP Chairman Lokman Uddin said, "The news is very tragic. After receiving the news of the death of the two expatriates, I went home to console their family members. This is an irreparable loss for both families."
It is worth noting that in June this year, five expatriates from Kanaighat Upazila died in a tragic road accident in Qatar. Before the grief could subside, another expatriate from Kanaighat died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia in July.
Meanwhile, a new wave of mourning has begun in the area following the death of two expatriates from Kanaighat in a road accident in Saudi Arabia.
