Hemayet went missing in Libya after losing 2.2 million taka.

Hemayet Molla (28), son of Matin Molla of Purba Rasti village in Madaripur Sadar upazila, dreamed of changing his family's fortune by going to Italy. To fulfill that dream, the family sold their last assets, collected money from loans and relatives, and handed over 2.273 million taka to a broker's gang. But instead of Italy, he was sent to Libya. Hemayet has been missing since then. The family is still not sure whether he is alive or dead. In this incident, Hemayet's brother Belayet Molla filed a case against five members of the human trafficking broker's gang at the Madaripur Human Trafficking Crime Suppression Tribunal on March 16. However, more than three months have passed since the case was filed, but no accused has been arrested so far. The plaintiff and family members of the case have expressed extreme disappointment and anger over this. The accused in the case are Hedayet Laskar, Alo Begum, Motaleb Laskar of Laxmiganj village in Sadar upazila and Azad Dorji and Polly Akhter of Jhikarhati village. Charges have been filed against them under the relevant sections of the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, 2012. The case statement states that an organized gang of brokers lured Hemayet, who had been unemployed for a long time, to send her directly to Italy from Bangladesh. Showing dreams of a better life, she was taken to Libya and tortured. In October and November 2025, 2.273 lakh 300 taka was collected from the family in cash, various bank accounts and bKash. But the promise to send her to Italy was not fulfilled. On the contrary, all contact with Hemayet by the family was cut off after she was taken to Libya. The family said that in late 2025, they came to know through some people who were in Libya that Hemayet was no longer alive after the brutal torture. However, the family could not be sure about this until today as there are no official documents or reliable evidence in this regard. Missing Hemayet's brother and plaintiff in the case, Belayet Molla, said, "They took more than 2.2 million taka on the pretext of taking my brother to Italy. Later, I learned that he is no longer alive. But no accused has been arrested to this day. We are demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment." Although attempts were made to contact the accused to get their statement on the charges, they refused to comment. Resident Shariful Islam Sujan said, "The brokers are looting everything from the simple people of the village by tempting them to take them abroad. The law enforcement agencies should quickly arrest the involved people and bring them under the law." Madaripur Police Superintendent Mohammad Habibur Rahman said, Madaripur is a human trafficking-prone district. The police are working with utmost importance to prevent such crimes. Strict legal action will be taken against those involved after a proper investigation of the charges.

However, the plaintiffs in the case claim that they are worried about getting justice, as no accused has been arrested for a long time, even after the case was filed. They have urged the concerned authorities to take effective steps to arrest the accused quickly and reveal the true nature of Hemayet's disappearance.
