Kuala Lumpur raid: 364 of the 472 detained foreigners are Bangladeshis.

The country's joint forces have conducted a raid in the Bangladeshi-dominated Kota Raya area of ​​the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The raid, which began at 11 am on Sunday, saw the documents of about 2,500 foreign nationals being checked. Of these, 472 people have been arrested on various charges. Of the arrested, 364 are Bangladeshi nationals.

The operation, led by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department, involved members of various government agencies, investigating allegations of illegal business operations and unnecessary public gatherings, as well as violations of immigration laws.

Among the 472 detainees, in addition to 364 Bangladeshis, there are 57 citizens of Myanmar, 9 from the Philippines, 7 each from Nepal, Indonesia and Pakistan, 6 from India, 3 from China and one each from Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia.

Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department Director Hamshah Injaw said a total of 337 officials from the Immigration Department, City Corporation (DBKL), Fire Service, National Registration Department and the Ministry of Health jointly participated in the operation.

He said the detainees are between the ages of 18 and 62. Of them, 439 are men and 33 are women. They were detained on charges of not having valid identity documents, having expired visas and violating visa conditions. They were later sent to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot for further investigation.

Investigations revealed that most of the foreigners verified had valid documents. However, some of them were arrested for violating certain laws. DBKL has said that it will take legal action against those operating illegally.

Hamshah Injaw has called on foreigners, including Bangladeshis, who are illegally staying in Malaysia to immediately return to their respective countries under the 'Migrant Repatriation Program' (PRM). At the same time, he warned that strict legal action will continue against those living illegally and those who harbor them.
