An exceptional musical evening was held at the local Hope Church auditorium in Toronto, Canada, organized by the Dhrubapada Performing Arts and Research Centre, in protest of the removal of music from the curriculum in Bangladesh. In this, young students born and raised in Canada participated in the rally by singing and performing in solidarity.
Despite the bitterly cold minus 35 degrees, local parents were also present at the event. The overall supervision of the event was by Dr. Momtaz Mamata, and the narration and conduct was by Dr. Imtiaz Omar. The audience enjoyed a lively cultural evening featuring a delightful performance of songs and dances.
According to the organizers, such an initiative to showcase the new generation will help further advance Bengali culture in the diaspora.
Delwar Elahi, a spectator and community figure present at the event, said that the voices of the new generation were not only sweet but also a strong conviction against injustice. When the chorus of small children and teenagers echoed “Oh brother, purer than pure gold, is the soil of our country,y” it became difficult to contain emotions.
