A Bangladeshi student named Md. Istinab Mahi (23) has been killed in a tragic road accident in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
The accident occurred at 1:32 am local time on Friday. The deceased, Mahir, hails from Chittagong and was in Canada for higher education.
According to the local police administration, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), a car with four occupants lost control and overturned near the intersection of Mayor Avenue and Newtown Road in the St. Johns area. The severity of the accident caused the car to crash through the boundary wall of the Belvedere Cemetery next to the road and into the cemetery.
Upon receiving the information, rescue workers quickly reached the spot and rescued the four occupants of the car and took them to the hospital. The doctor on duty there declared Mahi dead. The other three occupants of the car were injured but are currently out of danger and undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The deceased Mahi was the child of Md. Mohib Ullah and Parveen Akhter of Chittagong. This talented student passed SSC with GPA-5 from Chittagong Collegiate School in 2019 and HSC with GPA-5 from Chittagong College in 2021. Later, she got admitted to the Chemical Engineering Department of Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada. She was also serving as the 'brand ambassador' representing Bangladeshi students of the university.
His death has cast a shadow of deep sorrow over his family, relatives, classmates and the Bangladeshi community in Canada. Teachers, classmates and friends are expressing their condolences on social media, paying tribute to his memory.
Local police said an investigation has been launched to uncover the real cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the family has sought the cooperation of the concerned authorities to quickly repatriate Mahi's body after completing the necessary legal procedures.
