An expatriate Bangladeshi named Ram Prasad Sarkar (36) was killed when his private car was hit by a train in Portugal. Four other Bangladeshis were seriously injured.
The accident occurred in the Mesquite Grande area of the Algarve region of the country last Thursday. The Bangladesh Embassy in Lisbon expressed its condolences over the incident on Friday.
The deceased, Ram Prasad, hailed from Tangail district and had been living in Portugal for a long time.
In a statement, the embassy expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and relatives of the deceased and prayed for the peace of his soul.
According to embassy sources, the process of quickly sending the body of the deceased expatriate to the country has begun. For this purpose, round-the-clock communication is being maintained with the relevant authorities in Portugal and local expatriate Bangladeshis.
In addition, an embassy official has been sent to the hospital to inquire about the physical condition of the injured Bangladeshis undergoing treatment.
Following this unfortunate accident, the Bangladesh Embassy has requested all expatriate Bangladeshis living in Portugal to be vigilant about their own safety at work and while traveling.
