The Bengali story film 'Nona Pani' was screened at the Multicultural Film Screening Centre at 3000 Danforth Avenue in Toronto, organized by the Toronto Film Forum, on Friday evening, local time. The screening of the film 'Nona Pani' began with a tribute to renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker Zahir Raihan.
The film, written, directed, and produced by Syeda Nigar Banu, artistically depicts the lives of ordinary people in the Sundarbans region of southern Bangladesh.
The film beautifully portrays how climate change has negatively impacted the lives of the hardworking people of this region. The film's production style and the performances of various characters captivated the audience. The film stars Bilkis Banu Zaba, Kazi Rakibul Alam Ripon, Joyita Mahalanbish and Jayanta Chatterjee in the lead roles.
After the screening of the film, a discussion on the film was moderated by Toronto Film Forum Program Editor Gautam Sikder, with author Sheikh Shahnawaz, Toronto Bangla Book Fair convener Sadi Ahmed, cultural figure Ahmed Hossain, Ms. Lita, Toronto Film Forum Film Screening Editor Regina Rahman, and Toronto Film Forum President Enayet Karim Babul.
It is worth noting that the film received critical acclaim at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival in 2023 and was awarded at the Jaffna Film Festival in Sri Lanka in the same year.
