The 8th Toronto Multicultural Film Festival 2025 will be held from August 24 to 28, spanning five days. This film festival has been held annually since 2017 under the auspices of the Toronto Film Forum. This year's opening and closing ceremonies and film screenings of this festival will be held at the Cineplex Oden at 22 Lebewick Avenue in Scarborough, Toronto.
For the past few years, the Toronto Multicultural Film Festival has been held here in a festive atmosphere, with a large number of film lovers in attendance. The other three days, August 25, 26, and 27, will be the film screenings at the Multicultural Film Screening Centre at 3000 Danforth Avenue in Toronto. The middle day will feature a children's film screening and a special session for children.
The five-day film festival will start at 6 pm every day and end at 11 pm. This year's festival will screen 47 films from 28 countries. On the first day, two short films and two full-length films from Canada, Iran, Germany and Bangladesh will be screened. The films are Iran's 'Blind Spot', Canada's full-length film 'Universal Language', Germany's 'Mother Love' and Bangladesh's full-length film 'Aam Kanthaler Chuti'. On the last day, two full-length films from Bangladesh '1971: Sey Sab Din' and 'Agantak' and two short films from the Philippines and Canada, 'Laglag' and 'It's Nice to Meet You' will be screened.
The 8th Toronto Multicultural Film Festival 2025, organized by the Toronto Film Forum, will open with the 89-minute narrative film 'Universal Language' by Canadian filmmaker Matthew Rankin. The film, which was made in 2024, has already been widely praised by critics and audiences. According to the National Board of Review, 'Universal Language' is among the five best films made worldwide in 2024. This year, the film has been sent from Canada in the 'Best International Feature Film' category for the 97th Academy Awards. 'Universal Language' director Matthew Rankin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1980. He studied at McGill University in Montreal. Experimental filmmaker Matthew Rankin's first feature film, 'The Twentieth Century,' was released in 2019. 'Universal Language' is his second feature film.
