Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada, Md. Jasim Uddin has urged expatriate Bangladeshis to register to vote by mail on the occasion of Bangladesh's 55th Victory Day.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, on Tuesday, local time, celebrated the Great Victory Day with due dignity through various day-long programs. The program highlighted the growing role and responsibility of Bangladeshis living abroad in implementing the spirit of the great Liberation War of 1971.
Earlier in the day, High Commissioner Md. Jasim Uddin hoisted the national flag along with the national anthem at Bangladesh House in Ottawa. Later, a special prayer was held seeking forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs of the great liberation war. Officers and staff of the High Commission were present at the time.
In the afternoon, a special discussion meeting was held at the High Commission auditorium to mark Victory Day. Members of the Bangladeshi community, Bangladeshi students studying in Canada and other guests participated in it. The program began with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, as well as the martyrs of the July Movement.
The program included speeches by the President, the Chief Advisor, and the Foreign Advisor. Later, a documentary produced by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs was screened, highlighting the dreams and aspirations of the great Liberation War.
