BSS Chairman exchanges views with Mayor of Tower Hamlets in London

Journalist Anwar Aldeen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Joint Editor of Dainik Ittefaq, exchanged views with Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfar Rahman in London.

At a meeting held at his office on Wednesday, Mayor Lutfar Rahman said, "I welcome award-winning journalist Anwar Aldeen to London, who has made unique contributions to investigative journalism."

The mayor expressed hope that the practice of democracy in Bangladesh will be further strengthened and the people's voting rights will be further consolidated through fair and transparent elections.

The mayor also said, "Our expectation is that the fundamental rights of ordinary people in Bangladeshsuch as freedom of expression, law and justice, education and medical careshould not be hindered or discriminated against in any way."

At the same time, he emphasized on utilizing Bangladesh's manpower as a public resource, like China and India.

Journalist Anwar Aldeen expressed his satisfaction after meeting with Lutfar Rahman, the first elected mayor of Tower Hamlets, the capital of the Bangladeshi community in Britain, and exchanged views on the progress, education, leadership development, and social participation of the British-Bangladeshi community.

It is worth noting that Lutfar Rahman has made history as the first non-white elected mayor in the UK. He is the Executive Mayor of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets - the third largest economic area in the UK, with an economic value of around £40 billion and a population of around 350,000. He leads around 10,500 officers and employees.
