The Bangladesh Embassy in Vietnam has urged Bangladeshi citizens illegally staying in Vietnam to pay fines and return home through legal procedures.
A special warning notice from the embassy on Friday (July 31) stated that those wishing to return home must report in person to the nearest police station or immigration office on their own initiative.
The notification said that after reporting, the Vietnamese immigration authorities will issue an official letter stating the amount of the fine imposed. After depositing the fine amount in the bank account mentioned in the letter, the person can return to Bangladesh using their own passport after collecting the exit pass issued by the immigration authorities.
The embassy also said that one should refrain from seeking assistance from any intermediary or third party in this regard. There is a risk of fraud if one communicates or transacts money through a Bangladeshi or Vietnamese person or broker.
The notice mentioned that recently some unscrupulous individuals have been extorting huge amounts of money by promising to send them to Bangladesh, even using the name of the embassy. Everyone has been urged to be cautious of such fraud.
The embassy has clarified that if you do not have a passport, it is only their responsibility to issue the necessary travel permit. In this case, the government fee is 10 US dollars, but it is often waived considering financial circumstances. In addition, the fine must be deposited directly into the treasury of the Vietnamese government.
The Bangladesh Embassy has requested that if there is any information or complaint of any kind of fraud, please send it to the embassy's email address mission.hanoi@mofa.gov.bd along with appropriate evidence.
