An 'Information Exchange Meeting on Voter Registration and National Identity Card (NID)' was held at 6 Congo Drive, Turnpike, on October 26 (Sunday) at the initiative of Bangladeshi expatriates in Victoria, Australia. The meeting, organized to raise awareness of the civil rights of expatriates, drew enthusiastic participation.
Speakers at the meeting highlighted the importance of registering Bangladeshis abroad as voters in the upcoming parliamentary elections. They said that citizens living abroad can now register to vote and vote in Bangladesh's national elections, which is a historic opportunity for the diaspora community.
The information exchange session discussed voter registration eligibility, the process of applying for and correcting a national identity card, required documents, the online application process, and the Election Commission's instructions and deadlines.
It is noteworthy that this meeting was organized entirely on the spontaneous initiative and participation of the expatriate Bangladeshis without any formal support from the Bangladesh High Commission. It expressed the determination to further strengthen the cooperation and democratic spirit of the community.
According to the organizers, such spontaneous initiatives will increase awareness, strengthen the bond of civic responsibility and unity among the expatriates.
The community members said that they feel proud and inspired as they have the opportunity to participate in the country's development and democratic process even from abroad.
