56 immigrants, including Bangladeshis, arrested in Malaysia

The Malaysian immigration department has arrested 56 undocumented immigrants, including Bangladeshis, in two separate raids in Terengganu, Malaysia. Most of the arrests were of construction workers during raids conducted in five districts of the state.

The operation was conducted from 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday (December 10), during which the documents of a total of 92 migrants were checked. Of these, 42 were found to have various irregularities in their visas and documentation.

Terengganu Immigration Department Director Mohammad Yusri Mohammad Nor said that in the first operation, 42 Bangladeshis were arrested during searches at seven construction sites in Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Terengganu, and Setiu districts.

According to the Immigration Act 1952/63, cases are being filed against the arrested persons under various sections.

Twenty-seven people were arrested for violating permit or visa conditions, 13 for not having valid travel documents, and two more for overstaying their visas. The arrested have been sent to the Asylum Immigration Depot for further legal proceedings.

In the second operation, 14 more migrants were arrested in 10 locations in the Kuala Terengganu, Marang, and Dungun districts. They included five from Indonesia and Bangladesh, three from Thailand and one from Myanmar. The arrested persons are between the ages of 23 and 49.

Immigration authorities said that operations against illegal immigrants will continue.
