Bangladeshi Masuma Khan (64) was released from a detention center in California, USA, on November 5 after 31 days. Masuma Khan's husband, Ishtiaq Khan, had applied for an adjustment of status. After applying, she was arrested and detained at the California City Detention Center by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents when she went to appear at the immigration office in Los Angeles (October 6).

After such an incident, local Congresswoman Judy Chu and US Senator Adam Schiff immediately demanded the release of Masuma Khan, condemning and protesting. At the same time, Masuma Khan's daughter, attorney Riya Khan, also filed an application in immigration court. In addition, the Los Angeles-based volunteer organization 'South Asian Network' also demanded the release of Masuma Khan, who is suffering from a complex disease.

The Fresno County Superior Court then ordered Masuma Khan's release. She has been asked to appear in court on November 14. At the same time, the court ordered all immigration agencies, including ICE, not to arrest Masuma Khan until her application for adjustment of status is resolved.

After Masuma Khan's release, attorney Riya Khan said angrily, "My mother fell into the clutches of a Bangladeshi criminal gang living in Los Angeles City. They promised to take care of everything for her green card in exchange for a large sum of money. That was in 1997. At that time, my mother came to the United States on a tourist visa. My simple mother was the victim of the cruel deception of the criminal gang. Riya Khan called on expatriates to stand up against these gangs and demanded that the authorities immediately investigate and punish them."
