Bangladeshi-American Shamsul Haque has been appointed as the chair of a special commission to improve New York City's school bus management.
Greg Faulkner, chairman of the city's Educational Policy Panel, made the appointment on October 2.
Shamsul Haque is the founder and former president of the Bangladeshi American Police Association (BAPA) and a retired lieutenant in the New York City Police Department.
This commission will work on school bus delays, misunderstandings, and problems with student pick-up and drop-off, and will make recommendations to the Department of Education and the Educational Policy Panel.
Shamsul Haque, the newly appointed chair of the commission, said in this regard, "Our goal is to ensure safe, timely, and reliable transportation for students."
It is worth noting that New York City public schools have 10,000 buses that pick up students from their homes and drop them off at their homes after the holidays.
Shamsul Haque was previously a member of the Board of Trustees Committee of the City University of New York, who holds a master's degree from Columbia University.
