Malaysia's immigration department has arrested 94 illegal immigrants in two separate raids in the state of Selangor. The detainees include citizens of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, Nepal, India, and Pakistan.
Malaysian Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaban stated that the first raid was conducted on Monday at an amusement park in Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang, Selangor.
After a two-week search, the Immigration Department conducted a raid at 1:40 pm.
In this operation, 123 people were questioned, of whom 52 were foreigners and 71 were locals. From there, 46 illegal immigrants were arrested.
Those detained include 31 men, 9 Myanmar women, 2 Indonesian men, 3 Bangladeshi men and a Thai woman.
Zakaria said all have been taken to the Millennium Immigration Detention Depot in Beranong for questioning.
The following day, Tuesday, another raid was conducted at an industrial factory in Balakong and a supermarket in Puchong. The raid, which began at 11:45 a.m., resulted in the screening of 64 people and the arrest of 48 illegal immigrants.
The detainees are between the ages of 18 and 49 and are citizens of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, India and Pakistan.
The Director General of Immigration said that although many illegal immigrants tried to escape, officers were vigilant and were able to apprehend them.
He said, "Strict action will also be taken against those who hire foreign workers without valid documents."
The detainees are being investigated under sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
Datuk Zakaria warned, "The zero tolerance policy will continue against those who stay illegally, misuse their passes or overstay. At the same time, employers who assist illegal immigrants will also be brought under the law."
