Chilliwack is a city located about 100 kilometers east of Vancouver. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, and green valleys, this quiet city is known as the heart of the Fraser Valley. The Vedder River here is a popular fishing spot for locals. But during the rainy season, the current of this river becomes dangerous. Bangladeshi-Canadian scientist and pharmacy researcher Dr. Sadat Robin (41) lost his life due to the strong pull of that current.

The tragic incident occurred near the Vedder River Campground and Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve on Saturday morning (October 25). Witnesses said he was probably fishing and was swept away by strong currents while crossing the river.

The Chilliwack Fire Department, Search and Rescue Team, BC Ambulance Service and RCMP quickly arrived on the scene and conducted a rescue operation with the help of drones, boats and helicopters. After a lengthy search, his body was recovered from the Vedder River near the rail bridge at around 10 a.m.

Chilliwack police said in a statement that he was found dead and brought to shore.

The statement added that due to recent heavy rains, the water level of the river has risen abnormally and the speed of the current has become dangerous. We urge citizens to be vigilant.

Dr. Sadat Robin was a brilliant talent in the Canadian pharmaceutical research world. He held multiple international scholarships, fellowships, Ph. D.s, postdocs, and patents. His research and innovation inspired many young scientists.

According to his colleagues, he was a gentle, humane, and unassuming person. He wanted to spread the light of his success to society.

Meanwhile, the news of Dr. Sadat Robin's death has spread, sending a shadow of grief over the Bangladeshi community.
