Saudi Arabia arrests more than 22,000 expatriates in one week

More than 22,000 expatriates have been arrested in Saudi Arabia in one week for violating housing, labor, and border security laws.

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Interior has announced this information. The ministry stated that 22,222 expatriates were arrested during raids conducted in various parts of the country from August 14 to 20.

Officials said those arrested included 13,551 for housing law violations, 4,665 for border security law violations, and 4,060 for labor law violations.

Of the arrested expatriates, 20,000 have been sent to their respective diplomatic missions to collect necessary travel documents before being sent back home. In addition, 12,920 have already been repatriated from Saudi Arabia to their respective countries.

In addition, 1,786 people were arrested while trying to enter Saudi Arabia illegally by crossing the border.

At the same time, 18 people living in Saudi Arabia were also arrested for transporting and sheltering those who violated housing and work regulations.

There are currently 25,921 expatriates in the country with legal action pending against them, including 23,419 men and 2,502 women.

Saudi Arabia is currently home to about 34.8 million people—millions of migrant workers from different countries around the world work in Saudi Arabia.
