The New York-based expatriate organization 'Bangladesh Society' has received its first government grant, ending a 50-year wait. A new chapter has begun for the organization with the receipt of a $20,000 grant check from the New York State Assembly.

The check was officially presented by Jennifer Rajkumar, a state assemblywoman elected from Queens, at a ceremony on Sunday (March 1). The Democratic state assemblywoman has been elected for six consecutive years from Assembly District 38. Her constituency includes areas with a Bangladeshi population, including Ozone Park, Woodhaven Boulevard and Richmond Hill. She is also running in the upcoming election.

Amidst huge applause at the check handover ceremony, Jennifer Rajkumar said, "As the largest organization of Bangladeshis in New York City, the Bangladesh Society has been working for the welfare of the community for a long time. Inspired by the organization's activities, it has been possible to collect this significant donation from the State Assembly for the first time."

The Indian-American lawmaker thanked the officials of the Bangladesh Society and assured them of their continued support for the development of the community in the future.

New York State Senator John Lew was present at the event and praised the humanitarian work of expatriate Bangladeshis and expressed deep gratitude to the community.

At this time, Attorney at Large Moin Chowdhury, District Leader at Large of the Queens Democratic Party, expressed his thanks and gratitude to Jennifer Rajkumar and John Lew on behalf of the community.

It is worth mentioning that the event, held at the Jaya Party Hall in Queens, was presided over by the organization's president, Ataur Rahman Selim, and moderated by General Secretary Mohammad Ali. It attracted a large gathering of expatriates from all walks of life.
